How to draw an eagle
Hard
The eagle is the king of the sky. Broad wings and a hooked beak. In this lesson we will draw a golden eagle with its wings spread. The most important detail is the finger-like feathers at the wing tips.
The dashed line is the wing line in the DrawBird canvas: everything above it flaps, everything below it stays as the body.
Step by step
1. Body
Under the dashed line, draw a strong, long body. An eagle's body is thick and muscular.
2. Head
On the right of the body, add a head that is small compared to the body. A golden eagle has a golden nape, so make the top of the head light brown.
3. Hooked beak
In front of the head, draw a short but strong hooked beak with the tip curving down. Let the base of the beak be yellow and the tip dark.
4. Broad wings
ABOVE the dashed line, draw a wide, long wing. Don't finish the tip flat. End it with 4–5 feathers spread apart like fingers. That's what identifies an eagle from far away.
5. Tail and talons
On the left of the body, add a wide fan-shaped tail, and underneath, yellow talons with curved claws.
Done!
Eagle is ready. Now draw it in DrawBird, give it a name and let it loose in the sky.
Common mistakes
- Ending the wing tip in a point. An eagle's wing ends in feathers spread like fingers.
- Drawing the beak long. An eagle's beak is short but very curved and strong.
- Making the head big. An eagle's head is small compared to its body.
What you should know about Eagle
- The golden eagle has a wingspan of 1.8–2.3 meters and lives in the mountains of Türkiye.
- Eagles see several times sharper than humans. From very high up, they can pick out a rabbit.
- In warm air they can glide for hours without flapping.
- Eagle pairs stay together for life and use the same nest for years, making it bigger each time.
