How to draw a gull
Easy
The secret of the gull is its long, thin wings. Once the wing goes up in the sky, it is a gull. Let's draw one in five steps.
The dashed line is the wing line in the DrawBird canvas: everything above it flaps, everything below it stays as the body.
Step by step
1. Body
Under the dashed line, draw a body that is longer and thinner than the sparrow's. Let it narrow toward the front, like a bullet.
2. Head
Add a round but small head at the right end of the body.
3. Beak
Draw a long yellow beak and curve the tip down a little. Put a red dot on the lower beak. When chicks peck at that dot, the parent feeds them.
4. Wings
This is the real work. ABOVE the dashed line, draw a long, thin, light gray wing and make the tip black. The longer the wing, the more it looks like a gull when it flaps.
5. Tail and feet
Add a short white fan tail on the left of the body. Draw the feet yellow if you like. In flight they tuck under the body anyway.
Done!
Gull is ready. Now draw it in DrawBird, give it a name and let it loose in the sky.
Common mistakes
- Leaving a white bird without an outline. Draw a dark outline first, then leave the inside white.
- Keeping the wing short. A gull's wing is longer than its body.
- Drawing a tiny beak like a sparrow's. A gull's beak is long and thick.
What you should know about Gull
- Most of the gulls in Istanbul are yellow-legged gulls. They are 52–68 cm long with a wingspan of 1.2–1.5 meters.
- They can drink both fresh and salt water. Glands above their eyes get rid of the extra salt.
- Young gulls are speckled brown. It can take them four years to become adults.
- The red dot on the beak works like a button. The chick pecks it and the food comes.
