How to draw a parrot
Easy
The most colorful birds in the sky are parrots. In this lesson we will draw a red, yellow and blue macaw. Be bold with your colors.
The dashed line is the wing line in the DrawBird canvas: everything above it flaps, everything below it stays as the body.
Step by step
1. Body
Under the dashed line, draw a long egg, slightly tilted. A parrot's body gets thinner toward the tail.
2. Head
Add a round head at the right end of the body. A macaw has a bare white patch on its face, so leave the area around the eye white.
3. Beak
The beak is what makes a parrot a parrot. Draw a big, hooked beak curving downward. The upper beak closes over the lower one.
4. Wing
ABOVE the dashed line, draw a wide wing. Make the shoulder yellow and the tip blue. Without those color bands, it's not a parrot.
5. Long tail
On the left of the body, draw a long, thin, pointed tail as long as the body and paint the tip blue.
Done!
Parrot is ready. Now draw it in DrawBird, give it a name and let it loose in the sky.
Common mistakes
- Drawing the beak small and straight. A parrot's beak is big and hooked.
- Using one color. The color bands on the wing are what identify a parrot.
- Drawing the tail short. A macaw's tail is as long as its body.
