How to draw a peacock
Hard
A peacock's long tail looks wonderful in the sky. In this lesson we will draw a flying peacock. The "eyes" on the tail are the most fun part.
The dashed line is the wing line in the DrawBird canvas: everything above it flaps, everything below it stays as the body.
Step by step
1. Body
Under the dashed line, a little right of the middle, draw a medium-sized body and make it bright blue.
2. Neck and head
From the right of the body, draw a thin neck and a small head. On top of the head, add a crest of three thin feathers with ball-shaped tips.
3. Beak
In front of the head, add a small, pointed, light-colored beak.
4. Wing
ABOVE the dashed line, draw a wide brown wing. A peacock's wing is plain compared to its tail.
5. Tail with eyes
On the left of the body, draw a green tail that is much longer and wider than the body. Inside it, put "eye" patterns with a blue center and a yellow edge. These aren't really the tail, but the long feathers above the tail.
Done!
Peacock is ready. Now draw it in DrawBird, give it a name and let it loose in the sky.
Common mistakes
- Letting the tail go above the dashed line. If it stays on top, it will flap along with the wing.
- Making the eyes one color. The blue center and yellow ring bring them to life.
- Forgetting the crest. The three feathers on the head give away a peacock right away.
What you should know about Peacock
- The long feathers with eye patterns aren't the tail but the covert feathers above the tail. They can be longer than 1.5 meters.
- Only males have these showy feathers. Females are plain brown.
- The Indian peafowl is the national bird of India.
- They look heavy, but they can fly. They spend the night in the high branches of trees.
