How to draw a hummingbird
Medium
The hummingbird is the bird that flaps its wings fastest in the world. With its tiny body, it looks very sweet in the sky too.
The dashed line is the wing line in the DrawBird canvas: everything above it flaps, everything below it stays as the body.
Step by step
1. Small body
Under the dashed line, draw a small, thin, bright green body. The hummingbird is one of the smallest birds.
2. Head
Add a small round head on the right of the body. Put a bright red patch on the throat. The throats of male hummingbirds shine in the light.
3. Long thin beak
In front of the head, draw a very long, thin, needle-like beak. The hummingbird reaches the nectar inside flowers with this beak.
4. Fast wings
ABOVE the dashed line, draw a thin, pointed wing. If you keep it thin, it looks fast when it flaps.
5. Tail
Add a short tail that opens like a fan on the left of the body. You can draw a flower next to it too, but heads up: the flower flies off with the bird!
Done!
Hummingbird is ready. Now draw it in DrawBird, give it a name and let it loose in the sky.
Common mistakes
- Drawing the beak short. A hummingbird's beak is almost as long as its body.
- Drawing the bird big. It's sweeter when it's small.
- Drawing the wing thick. A thin wing gives the feeling of fast flapping.
What you should know about Hummingbird
- Hummingbirds flap their wings 50–80 times a second and can hover in the air.
- They are the only group of birds that can fly backward.
- The smallest bird is the bee hummingbird in Cuba, only 5–6 cm.
- Hummingbirds live only in the Americas, not in Türkiye.
